Maya/After effects project. Year one

project2

These were my first ideas and aspects for what I wanted to achieve in the project at the time, the ideals of color and theme were very important at this time aswell as having some side ambitions to sort out my word press and my blog.

project2

These notes commented on important issues such as who was I trying to capture as my audience within this piece and why was I trying to capture that audience rather than a younger or older age group, I was also beginning to think about problems and solutions within the project aswell as layout and image.

project2

At this point I started to get a general idea of what I wanted to do and I began to write down ideas for how I wanted it to look, I looked at the colors I wanted to use as well as thinking about what those colors and images would mean to the viewer, basically I had the general outline of what I wanted to do however I hadn’t started to make or develop the images in After Effects.

project2

This page is kind of irrelevant however it does make my interest into sound and my consideration in to how sound could effect my animation.

project2

This page marks an idea I never followed through with, it was the idea of vocal garbage and how by saying  “global warming wont effect us” in a sense we are polluting other peoples minds with the same kind of  nonsense.

project2

These are more notes on how I wanted the image to look, along with detailed ideas of imagery yet to come, and overall the way I wanted the animation to work.

Development into the way the animation would work on After Effects.

Research notes.

I started off working on the idea of color because I felt that it would be easier for me to display my thoughts correctly through the use of strong vibrant color. I furthermore at the beginning of the project looked rather closely into the four medieval humors than focusing on the concept of global warming, this was due to knowledge constraints. I had a small knowledge of the medieval humors but none what so ever on global warming, other than blind skepticism. However I ended up choosing to work on the concept of global warming due to the aspect that I found the four humors to be rather boring.

I went to develop the idea of color to the concept of humanity, how we in some way or another are responsible for the planets climate change, I still though wanted to keep the aspect of color dormant in the theme of my project. I started thinking about the way people react in regards to global warming, their attitude, their overall knowledge of what it is and generally the way people feel towards the subject, I from this came up with the idea to do a perspective on how people look. When you take away a persons character, their curves that define their shape, their soul if you will, you are left over with a basic shape for a human, a non thinking, emotionless being that is no more than a machine. This was what lead me on to the concept of ignorance and machinery.

Coming to my final piece the image was meant to represent several different subjects firstly the sun and th planet earth move from side to side to represent the aspect of time passing to signify that global warming is happening over time and the effects wont happen over night. Once the planets stop the human symbols start to animate, firstly the yellow humans(yellow representing the earth as a planet) begin to crumble and die getting across the point that global warming is destroying the planet. Secondly the green humans (green representing greenhouse gases) begin to waft up into the air signaling the amount of pollution we as humans make, at this point you may also notice that the humans are mutated by the way they are stuck together, this is implying that all the gas we produce cant be good for humanity and in the long run may mutate us.

The blue humans (blue representing the water aspect) begin to melt and then fade away realizing the issue of the polar ice caps meting. Lastly the red humans represent the planet heating up from the lack of an ozone layer which has happened due to people intoxicating the air with pollution, this is shown in the animation by the red humans exploding.

If I was to do this project again I would slightly change the way in which I approached the question, I would also of gone a different way in the process of making the animation, it would of been cool to do a sort of space invader piece, to be fair I may come back to this project and change it when I get a better knowledge of After effects although for now I am happy with what I have done and am proud of the work I have produced.
